Happy New Year everyone! Sorry not to adjust photo of Jason with difficult Brut bottle.
Weather report: snow extravaganza. I think we have two or three feet of snow on the ground, and it keeps on snowing. Very beautiful and often quite cold. Will Cold Yoga replace Hot Yoga as a trend? No.
Johanna is here celebrating New Year’s with us. On her behalf, I would like to remind everyone that whoever holds the camera in a self-taken photo ends up with a non-realistic giant jaw. Today the proportionately-jawed Johanna and I went skiing over on Mount Tom, a local national park not far away. The snow is heavy on the branches of pine trees and the sun shone through the woods onto the glistening fields, etc etc. I went to Mount Tom a few days ago, by myself, and had my first experience of woodland panic. It’s a completely tame ‘mountain’, small and surrounded by roads. I had my newish skis with newly mounted bindings and boots, all of which I purchased years ago and had not yet used. I skied merrily around and then got all turned around and confused on a little used icy trail that runs along the north side of the hill, and it was getting dark, and I became completely panicked. I backtracked and found the main trail and skied incredibly quickly back to the parking lot and then spent the rest of the evening eating chocolate and lolling on the sofa, getting over the adrenaline rush. Fun! Yikes! Today J and I did not panic at all, just had a nice ski.
We are eating much good food right now. I have new cookbooks from Jason: Artisan Bread in 4 Minutes a Day, and Alice Water’s Simple Food somethingorother, and the bread has worked out great as did our new year's almond cake. Jason is cooking out of the Chinese cookbook I got him, much to my benefit. Johanna is downstairs making minestrone soup and maybe she and I will make a Yule Log.
Deb and Susan came to visit- hooray! They brought very tasty cookies.
